"You never forget, you never forget," says John Thomas.

Thomas lost his 6-year old son, Joseph, five years ago to Short-Gut Syndrome.

His death inspired him to start the Joseph Thomas foundation.

Their mission-to help medically fragile children.

Thomas explains, "There's a lot of time you simply don't want to ask for help. Pride really kind of takes hold and you really want to say, I can do it by myself. I don't need help. The truth was in our situation, we needed help."

The Thomas family was there and that is why they have stepped up to the plate to fill the gap that Medicaid, Medicare and SSI cannot always help with.

"Whether it's helping with some medication or buying a wheelchair lift for the back of a vehicle or whatever it is, it takes a little bit of a burden off of that family," Thomas continues.

During this holiday season, Thomas remembers, what his son was put on this earth to do.

He says, "God has a plan for all of us and we're here for a very specific reason and I truly believe that Joseph was here for a reason and he accomplished whatever it is that God wanted him to do and then he got to go home."

Even though Joseph may no longer physically be here, his memory lives on.

Lifting spirits and touching hearts, one medical miracle at a time.
