It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas.

For many around abilene, its not officially the holidays until this very moment.

"Christmas time is starting again," said Carlotta Bowden, a Hawley resident who traveled to Abilene for the annual tree lighting event.

For some watching Abilene's annual community Christmas tree lighting is tradition.

"For many years I've been coming, I brought my children here and now I'm bringing my grandchildren," said Lois Edwards.

For others its a time to be with family.

"We have little bitty ones so, they keep it alive," said Bowden.

And for this Hunter Archibald it's the opportunity to light up the night.

He joined his grandfather Abilene mayor norm Archibald as the countdown began to light up the tree.

"You have to turn a switch and then you tun it on," said Archibald.

Whether you made the music  or just helped keep the beat, this was the symbol that sparked a new season.

"It means getting your family together and teaching them that Christmas is not just about the Christmas tree, its not about the gifts, its about giving," said Edwards.

It may look like just a  Christmas tree, but its significance has brought a whole community together.

Cooper High School's Red Rhythm and Blues will perform as well as the Abilene and Cooper High School Combined Chamber Orchestras.
