The Abilene Police Department said goodbye Wednesday afternoon to a long-time officer who served the City of Abilene as well as Abilene ISD for over 30 years.

Officer Mike McAuliffe, or "Officer Mike" as he's known to many, said his farewells to a packed room full of former co-workers both from the APD and Abilene High School.

Though there were many heartfelt moments and misty-eyed speeches, "Officer Mike" said the past 30 years were the best in his life.

"I just thank the citizens of Abilene and the Abilene Police Department for allowing me to have this much fun for these past 31 years," Judge McAuliffe said. "It's been a wild, fun ride."

This is not the end of his career in public service, however. Mike McAuliffe is now going by "Judge Mike" and stepped into the office of Justice of the Peace just one month ago.
