A Bittersweet Goodbye: Abilene Bakery Closes Doors

Flouring and frosting until the very last moving box is packed.That's Sherri Brown's mindset on her last day of work at her bakery in Abilene.

"I'm actually getting married. Things happen, and my personal life became a priority, as it should be", says Brown.

Just as the love of baking brought her to Abilene, it is also love that's inspiring her departure, but this time, it's not her adoration for sweets that's driving her decision.

"It's been an emotional roller coaster this week, with customers coming and and saying goodbye", explains Brown.

Though she's surrounded by sugar, today is bittersweet.

"Initially I was pretty sad. The overall experience of it was just fabulous, I had a lot of fun working here, I learned a lot", Morrow tells us.

Offering a range of desserts, from custom wedding cakes, to unique cupcakes, for many, Sweet Celebrations was a favorite.

And for Joee Morrow, who's worked in the bakery for over a year, today is especially hard.

For others, like Andrew Penney, who just happened to wander in for the first time, it was love at first bite, but unfortunately for him, the frosted love affair ended before it truly began.

"My girlfriend and I had never been before, so we thought before they closed for good, we would try a couple [cupcakes]", Penney tells us, "It was pretty good, I'm definitely gonna miss this place, I'd come back for more!"

Though leaving on good terms, the bakery will continue to celebrate sweetly in Lubbock, with the occasional Abilene run.
