An entire school has joined in chorus to sing a song to the one student who's missing.

Many of Rex Fleming's classmates aren't prepared for his absence.

Yet now they sing and shed a few tears for their  friend, companion and most of all hero.

"He came to school everyday even when he didn't feel well and fought the fight," said Rana Travieso, Fleming's fourth grade teacher.

No one can seem to remember a time when Fleming complained about his brain tumor.

The 10 year-old lost his battle after two years, but that brief time was enough to leave an impact on anyone around him.

"I think it was the way he tried to live every day with cancer like he didn't have cancer which is hard to do," said Lance Fleming, Rex's father.

Every one of his 600 colleagues released a red balloon in his name.

"What an amazing moment to watch them all fly up and then to release the blue balloon in honor of Rex and see it just rise to the top, which is how he was, he was always rising to the top and he made it, hes there hes with God," said Travieso.

They sang his favorite song as they saw the balloons go, "Lifesong" by Casting Crowns.

A proper title to describe his life- a song that will continue playing, even after death.
