Abilene Public Library Trading Food For Fines

If you've forgotten to return late library books and have a long list of fines, don't worry, there's a way to get rid of them without paying any cash. 

For the fourteenth year, the Abilene Public Library is collecting canned goods fod the needy...And trading them in for a discount on your overdue fees.
 
Each item you bring in gets you $1 off your fines with no limit.
 
Library officials say it's their way to give back to a community that's always been there for them.

"It's just a win-win situation because people can reinstate their borrowing privileges and help out a good cause and so everybody's happy," says city librarian Riki Brown.

The "Food for Fines" event runs until December 31 and all items benefit the food bank.
