Stephens Country Sheriff-elect Resigns Following Allegations

By: Victor Sotelo
Updated: December 3, 2012
Stephens County Sheriff-elect Billy Wade has resigned from the Breckenridge Police Department.

Wade's resignation comes after he was accused of causing a disturbance at the country club golf course in Breckenridge that forced Officer Jennifer Adams to call for back-up over police radio.

Those at the scene report that Wade was off-duty at the time and was drinking.

A third officer responded to the call, along with a sheriff deputy and the county commissioner-elect for precinct one.

No charges have yet been filed.

Since the incident, one officer quit to go to another agency.

The deputy that responded that night gave a statement saying the county attorney told him to keep his head down and stay quiet.

It was discovered last week that taser darts were found at the scene, but there has been no confirmation whether a stun-gun was used.

The investigation is ongoing.
