Public Meeting Tuesday to Discuss Future of Texas' Standardized Testing

By: BigCountryHomePage.com Staff
Updated: December 4, 2012
The state's STAAR test will not affect students' final grades this school year, but Abilene ISD is still pushing for a bigger change.

On Friday..the Texas Education Commissioner made the announcement to do away with the 15 percent rule in which the standardized test counted for 15 percent of a student's overall grade.

The news reflects a recent push by individual districts who want a complete overhaul of the state's testing system.

Proponents hope the decision will give them more time to convince legislators to take action.

A grassroots group made up of parents and local leaders is holding a public meeting Tuesday night to discuss the issue and answer any questions.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the Mockingbird branch of the Abilene Public Library.
