APD: Urgent Call from Woman as Ex Attempts Home Break-in

Wednesday afternoon at about 4:30 p.m., Officer Chris Bisbee responded to a shoplifter call at a business in the 1600 block of Hwy 351. APD dispatch had been notified by store loss prevention that a male subject was detained for alleged shoplifting. Officer Bisbee arrived and began his preliminary investigation. His investigation revealed that the male subject had been observed selecting merchandise items from the sales floor and then concealing them in the subject's back pack. The subject was contacted by loss prevention after passing all points of sale and failing to pay for said merchandise. Approximately $387 of stolen property was recovered. The subject was arrested for misdemeanor theft.

Wednesday night at about 10:30, Officer Mark Thomas contacted a motorist in the 3100 block of South 14 Street after observing the motorist driving at a high rate of speed and then committing another traffic violation. Officer Thomas contacted the male driver and smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle. During the preliminary investigation, Officer Thomas also observed the driver display indicators of intoxication and could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. The driver conducted field sobriety tests which he performed poorly. The driver was arrested and taken to county jail where he provided breath samples. Breath samples taken revealed the driver's BAC was 0.130. The driver was arrested for misdemeanor DWI.

Thursday morning at about 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a disturbance that had just occurred at a residence in the 1900 block of Beckham Street. APD dispatch had been notified by a female about her ex-boyfriend leaving her residence after banging on her door. A dispatcher then overheard the female screaming and learned that the ex-boyfriend had forced himself into the residence. Officers arrived on-scene, but the male subject had fled the scene in a vehicle for which a description was provided and broadcasted to Patrol Division, along with the subjects description. Officer David Humber conducted the preliminary investigation and learned that the male subject did not live at the female's residence. Officers began looking for the subject and then were called back to the same residence when a concerned citizen called APD to advise them of a disturbance at the residence. Officers learned that the subject had returned to the ex-girlfriend's home. They were able to locate the subject in the 1900 block of Sandefer Street driving away from the incident location. The subject was stopped and detained while officers continued investigating. Officer Humber's investigation revealed that the ex-girlfriend was assaulted by the male subject after he kicked in the front door. The victim was not transported for medical treatment. The male subject was arrested for felony burglary with intent to commit assault (family violence). This investigation continues.
