The Chief of Police Stan Standridge, says he has come up with a five year plan to increase the number of sworn officers to Abilene's police force.
It is a project that has been recently in the works with city manager Larry Gilley.
Standridge said he is unsure of how many more sworn officers will be added.
Abilene police are now looking for at least 15 recruits for the next police academy to maintain that 189 sworn strength.
The academy will start in June of next year.
