"We were taking down the lights and we'll be clearing the area and getting it all ready," says David Withers, parks/recreation director of Brownwood.

Brownwood is responsible for the building and funding.

"The city of Brownwood sold some bonds to be able to do this," explains Withers.

It came at the perfect time since the Centex fields were federal property and will soon be gone.

"That federal property was bid out and purchased by some investors."

The new fields will be home to Centex soccer and soccer for fun.

"Those two organizations will move all their soccer playing to this new soccer complex," says Withers.

And space won't be an issue.

"There will be more fields at this soccer complex then what they're currently playing on now."

In a matter of just a few months, you're gonna have 15 soccer fields, 2 practice fields, bleachers and of course a concession stand.

The hope for the new fields is new business.

"There's quite a few soccer associations that do travel throughout the state and with us being centrally located, we hope to get our share of those tournaments," says Withers.

But of course, the new complex is first and foremost for the community.

"Certainly I hope these fields will be even better than what they played on . And certainly will be something for the surrounding communities to be able to come to Brownwood and play their soccer games."

It's safe to say, when they build it, they will come.
