Eula ISD Uses Application to Enhance School Communication

With no town newspaper or radio station, when it comes to news, they often use neighboring outlets. But the district is now using another method to keep up with the times.
Eula High Principal Candilyn Smith says, "A lot of time when people put stuff on our website, people wont look. Parents don't look at it everyday or check emails. This is a way, everybody's always got their iPhones with them or their android devices."
This is the first year Eula ISD is using "School Connect". It is an application that allows you to view a variety of things. From finding out what time your child's sporting event is, to finding a teacher's email address, or even viewing your child's current grade in each class.
"It just keeps me up to date because I don't have time to read another newsletter. Even though they're good and informative, I prefer an app," says Pam Click, an Eula ISD parent.
The app even comes in handy if an emergency were to happen.
Prior to using this app the district would use an emergency calling system that calls numbers on a rotation basis.
Smith says, "This is definitely quicker and you can reach more people quicker. Like if we had an emergency evacuation and we were moving students to another location, we could put that location out with a link, we could put it out with a push notification, we can give directions, instructions."
Some may view the app as technology overload, but the majority seems to think it's a step in the right direction.
