Local Leaders Take Action After School Threats

Non-specific and unsubstantiated threats appearing in social media recently have left
local police and school administrators with no choice but to take
action, letting the public know they are addressing every aspect of
safety in area schools.
Abilene Independent School District leaders as well as Wylie School leaders call the threats non-specific and say they have been posted on various social media platforms over the last several weeks.
With the school shooting in Sandy Hook CT being less than a week old, police and local school officials are taking no chances.
At a mid-day news conference, police and school leaders wanted to reassure the public that they have the procedures and people in place to handle a situation in the unlikely possibility that a threat were to occur.
Abilene Police will also have additional officers on all AISD campuses as well as Wylie campuses.
Police ask that parents of teens make time to have some serious conversations about posting things on social media, including what's acceptable, what's not, and what to report to authorities.
Some of the information posted involves the upcoming Mayan calendar date and that being this Friday prompted some on-line comments relating to potential confrontations on Friday.

These comments reflect the exact result the idiots who posted junk on facebook and twitter want...fear. Just continue as normal and ignore them. The odds that someone would attempt this kind of thing in Texas are very slim. APD will post a cop at each school to appease the fears, but its really not practical to even consider this occurring here.

I am a concerned parent who has 4 children that attend taylor elementry school i would like to know what they are doing to keep my children safe and how they can keep unwanted people out of the schools i am at this point not wanting to send my children to school for the rest of the week how do you send your children with something like this going on

Ok, so every day this week, I have struggled watching my children walk into a school room, especially those doors at Taylor Elementary, and now there has to be some news conference about possible problems on Friday and you honestly think I am going to send my kids to school knowingly, willingly, when enough steps have not been taken to ensure their safety? Extra police, GREAT!!! What about Taylor, are you going to put a police man at every single door? I don't think so, which means my kiddos are sitting ducks! Not gonna happen.
