Search Conducted Over Threat to Area Schools

Police have given out more information regarding the recent juvenile arrest in connection with a threat toward Abilene area schools within the last week.
Police are saying that a search has been made concerning that particular threat and no physical evidence has been found at this time.
The search was consented to, so no warrant was needed.
Police state "with thousands of students and even more concerned parents, we continue to receive information that must be investigated," and that they are continuing to investigate other, so far, unsubstantiated threats.

Abilene Police confirm the juvenile arrest is related to one of the threats made within the last week that resulted in the stepped-up police presence on all Abilene area public school campuses.

The Following is a statement from APD:
Shortly before 8 AM on December 19th, the Abilene Police Department received information regarding an alleged threat by a former student. This threat was communicated to a student of AISD.
The Youth Division and the School Resource Officer were immediately involved in this investigation, which resulted in the arrest of a 16-year old juvenile.
This juvenile was arrested for False Alarm or Report, which is a State Jail Felony. The juvenile was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center where he remains. Further investigation did not identify specific plans associated with this threat. However, such threats are deemed very serious, and as was communicated yesterday, the Police Department may arrest persons who communicate such threats.
Taylor County Law Enforcement continues their efforts to proactively provide safety at all campuses. I hope parents were encouraged to see additional police presence at all campuses. These measures will remain in place throughout the week, while still ensuring an officer is on every campus throughout the school day on Friday.
Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about these issues. I am pleased that the recent arrest was the result of concerned parents who had spoken to their child, and thereafter they contacted the Police Department. Social media continues to be a poor choice for communicating these matters, so parents are asked to instruct their children to not communicate threats or even further rumors by responding to, forwarding, or creating "posts". Such posts will be investigated to determine if a violation of State law occurred.
Abilene will remain a safe place for education.
