Stamford beats Mart 35-28 on Thursday at Cowboys Stadium for the Class A Div. I state championship.

The Stamford Bulldogs rode the legs and the arm of Hagen Hutchinson to the State Championship game, and Hutchinson delivered in the big game for his team, too. Hutchinson leads Stamford to its 1st state championship since 1959 with a touchdown and an interception in the last 30 seconds of the game.

The game-winning drive started with 3 minutes to go at the Mart 49, and it ended on a 9-yard touchdown run by Hutchinson with 30 seconds to go. Stamford led, 35-28.  Hutchinson then sealed the victory when he picked off the Panthers pass on the last play of the game.

The Bulldogs started slowly, and Mart came out of the gates fast. The Panthers led the game 21-7 with 10:21 to go in the 2nd quarter, but Stamford scored 28 of the next 35 points in the game.

The comeback started with Hutchinson's 2nd touchdown pass to James Washington. The extra point was missed, and the Bulldogs trailed 21-13 at halftime.

The BCH Sports Player of the Year drew the Bulldogs even with Mart in the 3rd quarter. His 43 yard touchdown run and a 2-pt. conversion tied the game at 21 with 6:16 left in the quarter.

Mart answered that score with a touchdown late in the 3rd, but Hutchinson and his team responded early in the 4th. Isaiah Llewellyn scores from 8 yards out and the game is all knotted up at 28.

Hutchinson is the Offensive Player of the Game with 394 total yards and 4 touchdowns, and he is the Defensive Player of the Game with 16 tackles, 1 sack and 1 interception.
