Updated: December 24, 2012
Friday afternoon at about 2:35 pm, Officers Brian Trail and Alfred Dixon responded to a vehicular crash in the 6700 block of S. 1st Street. APD dispatch received notification from concerned citizens about a one-car collision that involved a male driver. Additional information indicated that the involved vehicle had traveled over railroad tracks and hit trees. APD dispatch was also advised that the male subject was attempting to move the vehicle prior to arrival of first responders. Officer Dixon arrived and met with the involved driver, a male subject. His preliminary investigation revealed that the driver was not injured but had lost control of his vehicle while traveling west bound on S. 1st Street. The vehicle left the roadway, striking the railroad tracks and then colliding into several trees. The vehicle driven by the male subject came to rest approximately 200 yards from the roadway. While interacting with the male driver, Officer Dixon observed that the driver displayed indicators of intoxication. Officer Dixon's investigation also revealed that the driver had allegedly smoked an unknown substance believed to be synthetic marijuana. The driver conducted field sobriety tests which he performed poorly. The driver provided a blood sample and was arrested for misdemeanor DWI with accident.

Saturday morning at about 1:35 am, officers responded to the area of 1600 Partridge Place as several citizens reported the discharge of a firearm. The initial reporting party notified APD dispatch that she heard gun shots coming from the area of Chachalaka Lane. As officers responded, they learned that about 3 or 4 shots had been reported. Additional information from citizens led officers to the 1600 block of Covey Lane. Officer Kevin Pruitt arrived on-scene and spotted a male subject in the front yard of a residence in the 1600 block of Covey Lane. The subject was contacted and found to be intoxicated. The preliminary investigation revealed that this male subject had recklessly fired a handgun in the back yard of a residence and caused an immediate breach of the peace. The act was observed by a witness. A .45-caliber handgun used in this offense was located and recovered as evidence. The male subject was arrested for misdemeanor discharge of a firearm within a municipality.

Saturday afternoon at about 3:35 pm, Officer Tim Pipes responded to a shoplifter call at a business in the 4300 block of Buffalo Gap Road. APD dispatch had been notified by a store employee that a male subject had been contacted for alleged theft and was currently detained. Officer Pipes contacted the involved parties and learned that two loss prevention employees had observed the male subject select merchandise, remove it from its box and then conceal it on his person. The male subject then left the store without paying for said merchandise. When contacted by mall security, the subject attempted to flee but was detained. Merchandise valued at approximately $30.00 was recovered. A records check confirmed the subject had two previous theft convictions. The male subject was arrested on an enhance charge of felony theft based on his previous theft convictions.
