It's a rather unusual Christmas for the Rodriguez family..

I usually have tamales made and all kinds of stuff and I haven't.

This year they'll be staying in.

And there aren't as many presents under the tree.

That's what Marie Rodriguez and her daughter were headed out to buy before everything changed.

"I didn't even realize it  had happened until it you know it took a whole second to suck it in," said Rodriguez.

Their car was rear ended by a truck at a stoplight.

Elysa's head smashed into the dashboard, after that she doesn't remember much.

"I remember them asking me about my siblings and if I enjoyed Christmas," said the 13 year-old.

Marie remembers seeing the driver of the truck approach her.. but he soon disappeared.

"I thought he was coming up next to us to see you know if we were okay and then he was gone," she said.

They're both thankful to be okay, but are still left with unanswered questions.

"Why" I mean, its better to have come forward instead of waiting for it to come to this because now we have no clue," said Rodriguez.

"I cant help but think why would they do that, it's just wrong," said Elyse.

So they're are asking anyone for help to find the culprit of the hit and run.

"There were so many people there to help us, surely someone saw something," said the single mom.

It may not be the usual Christmas, but its certainly one to be thankful for.

"We're home and were safe, I mean that's the best Christmas present I could ask for is to be with them I mean that the only thing i can ask for," said Rodriguez.

Even without the tree full of presents.

The Rodriguez family is urging anyone who may have  any information that could help them find the driver to notify Abilene police.
