The Day of Returns

December 26 is the biggest return day of the year. People all across America are shopping for what they do want and returning what they don't want. Here in Abilene, things are no different.

"I'm returning a blue bicycle and a child carrier seat for that bicycle," says Lucas Gifford.

"I'm returning a water bottle," says Caitlin Kurtz."I'm returning a pair of pants that my mom got me,"says Jenafer Parramore.

The list of reasons are just as different.

"We're moving to Los Angeles and can't transport it so I'm returning it here and buying it there," explains Gifford.

"I'm gonna exchange it for a Camelbak water bottle," says Kurtz.
"Apparently I overindulged a little too much over the holidays and I have to get a bigger size," says Parramore.

The easiest way to simplify your return experience is to have your receipt.

"With a receipt on electronics we have a 30 day return policy. On all our other items it's usually 90 days with receipt we can do either exchange or return for you, " says Target employee Rebecca Mortensen.

But not all receipts are treated equally.

"On a gift receipt it's 90 days for that. We can exchange that for you otherwise the only thing we can give you back is a gift card for the item, " says Mortensen.

Without a receipt, you are able to return the item, under specific conditions.

"If you paid with a card or check we can use either one of those methods to look up the receipt for you," explains Mortensen.

The most important thing to remember when returning has nothing to do with paperwork.

"A good attitude always goes a long way," she says. "It's always a lot easier to work with a happy customer than a difficult customer. We work with what we have and we do our best to make everybody happy."

And if you're stuck with less than desirable gift, remember it's the thought that counts.
