LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team rolled to a 78-53 win over Linfield in the
D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas on Saturday evening.
George Nelson had his
best game of the season with 20 points and 15 rebounds and added three blocks.
Titus Mims had 15 points and John Derr had 14 points.
The Cowboys never
trailed in the game and had a 23-11 lead with 8:04 to play in the first half.
The Wildcats then made their best run of the game as they narrowed the deficit
to 25-23 with 4:51 to play in the half.
HSU then exploded on a
13-4 run to close the half with a 38-27 lead. The Cowboys took early command in
the second half pushing the lead to 52-33 on back-to-back dunks by Nelson.
The Cowboys continued
to build on the lead throughout the half. HSU forced Linfield into 23 turnovers
in the game. HSU had a 27-11 advantage on points off turnovers.
HSU is now 8-2 on the
year and Linfield fell to 2-8 overall. HSU will play Wisconsin-LaCrosse on
Sunday at 4 p.m. to close out the event.
