Updated: December 31, 2012
Friday night at about 7:20, Officers Ed Cutbirth and Brad Hambright responded to a theft call at a business in the 5300 block of South 1 Street. APD dispatch was notified by a loss prevention employee about a male subject involved in suspicious behavior possibly linked to recent shoplifting incidents. Officer Hambright's preliminary investigation revealed that the male subject was observed propping open a door at the business to facilitate undetected theft of merchandise from inside the store. The male subject was contacted after leaving the store and was subsequently questioned. The investigation revealed that the subject intended to take unpaid items from the store and that the subject had placed a device at the door to prevent it from closing. The item used to prop the door open was seized. The subject was arrested for misdemeanor Unlawful Use of a Criminal Instrument. A separate report for theft was also taken. The store alleges that approximately $8,500 of property has been stolen since approximately December 10. The subject was warned not to return to the store. This investigation continues.

Saturday morning at about 12:45, Officers Cory Davis and Joshua Davis responded to a disturbance call at a convenience store in the 1000 block of North Mockingbird Lane. APD dispatch was notified by a concerned citizen who reported that a fight had just occurred and that two male subjects were at the parking lot of the store where the confrontation had occurred. The reporting party observed the subjects depart, then reported one of the subjects had returned and gone inside the store. Officers contacted the male subject. The subject advised Officer Joshua Davis that he was carrying a gun in his pocket. The subject was cooperative, but Officer Davis smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the subject whom he determined was intoxicated. Officer Davis located the gun, a revolver, during this investigation. The other subject involved in the alleged fight was not on-scene. The male subject with the gun was arrested for misdemeanor Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.

Saturday night at about 6:40, Officers Jacob Allred and Clint Coapland responded to a drunk driver call in the 2800 block of South Clack Street. A concerned citizen, who was following the driver of the vehicle, contacted APD dispatch and reported that a vehicle was weaving and almost hitting curbs. The concerned citizen followed the vehicle into a parking lot at a restaurant in the 3100 block of South Clack Street. The concerned citizen reported the driver's description after observing the driver exit the vehicle and then observed the driver at the trunk of his vehicle. Officers contacted the male driver and learned that the vehicle was also occupied by two children, ages seven and eight. The driver was falling asleep during this investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver had allegedly smoked some marijuana and ingested some hydrocodone pills. The driver conducted field sobriety tests which he performed poorly. The driver provided a blood sample and was arrested for felony DWI (with child). The witness provided a statement and this investigation continues.
