Billy Wade has accepted the authority and responsibilities of Stephens County Sheriff.

Wade won the election last month. That was before he was involved in this bizarre incident at the Breckenridge golf course.

Wade declined to comment about the incident.

Incumbent Stephens County Sheriff Dan Young says he will continue to supervise the office until midnight.

He says five professional law enforcement officers will resign from the sheriff's department and leave with him at midnight.
