Sweetwater Police Department Considering New In-Car Video System

Updated: January 4, 2013
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) is currently in the process of reviewing options for a new in-car video system.

According to Sweetwater Police Chief Brian Frieda, the system currently used is in need of replacement due to a shortened shelf life because of the impact felt on the electronics when riding over train tracks.

On Thursday, Jan. 3, SPD evaluated the cutting-edge technology system known as VIDTAC, which is provided by the Texas-based company CopSync. The company is used throughout the state as well as by local law enforcement agencies, including the SPD for their electronic citations.

Chief Frieda noted that other systems have been examined and the process will continue in reviewing various options. The SPD will evaluate all the information that has been presented to them in order to make a final decision to replace the in-car video system.
