Tickets on Sale for One Night Performance of West Side Story

By: Press Release
Updated: January 7, 2013
The tour of the smash hit Broadway revival of West Side Story is coming to Abilene for one night only.

West Side Story  will play the Abilene Civic Center January 23rd at 7:30pm.

David Saint, the Associate Director on Broadway, recreates Tony Award-winning librettist Arthur Laurents' Broadway direction for the tour and Tony Award-nominee Joey McKneely (The Boy from Oz, The Life) reproduces the original Jerome Robbins choreography.

From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Story  is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. Arthur Laurents' book remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim - a collection of standards that includes "Tonight," "America," "Maria," "I Feel Pretty" and "Somewhere" - is widely regarded as one of the best ever written. And the extraordinary, Tony-winning choreography by Jerome Robbins completely changed the language of Broadway dance.

This tour, based on Arthur Laurents' groundbreaking 2009 Broadway direction, offers a bold new design that builds on the show's raw power and emotion to create a fresh experience unlike any that came before it.

Abilene theatregoers will recognize a familiar face in the cast. West Texas native Jeff M. Smith, plays the role of Snowboy and understudies Riff, Tony and Diesel. Smith recently graduated from Texas Tech and his Abilene theater credits includes two years in the Abilene Ballet Theater production of The Nutcracker in the role of Snow Cavalier.

West Side Story will play the Abilene Civic Center one night only, January 23rd at 7:30pm.

Tickets are priced from $30 - $57 (handling fee not included) and go on sale January 7 through the Abilene Civic Center Box Office, or online at CelebrityAttractions.com or via phone at 800-869-1451. Group discounts are available by calling 800-869-1451 x220.

West Side Story is part of the three-show season package currently offered by Celebrity Attractions, ranging in price from $69- $179 for tickets to all three remaining Broadway shows - West Side Story, Monty Python's Spamalot and Elvis Lives: The Ultimate Elvis Tribute.

Three-show packages are available by phone at 800-869-1451 and online at www.CelebrityAttractions.com.
