Flu Contributes to Blood Shortage

By: BCHP News Staff
Updated: January 9, 2013
The rise in flu cases has had a negative effect on the Meek Blood Center.

Blood donations have fell behind due to seasonal illness in their in donors.

This is because donations cannot be accepted when a person is sick.

Right now, the blood center is in need of all negative blood types.

Of course, all blood types are welcome, but right now they need your help to play catch up.

"We've been hit like a lot of other places," explains Frances Baker of the Meek Blood Center. "There's been a lot of illness with our donors, which has really decreased our donations and we've had a blood drive cancel. So, there have been a whole lot of factors and what we'd really like to do is get enough donors in to have a three day supply and that would be about 150 donors."

If you would like to donate the blood center will be out in front of HEB on south Barrow taking donations from 1 until 6, as well as extending their hours at the blood center on Hickory from at 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.
