Men's Basketball To Square Off Against Oklahoma Christian

ABILENE, Texas - The McMurry University men's basketball team will put its three-game winning streak on the line when it plays host to Oklahoma Christian University on Thursday, in a contest between provisional NCAA Division II members.

The War Hawks are coming off a 101-92 victory over St. Edward's University. In that contest, McM boasted six players in double-figures, led by Takoby Jackson's career-high, 26 points. Antonio Bell added 19 points and Kaylim Noel chipped in with 17 in place of the injured Kenny Williams. As a team, the War Hawks shot a blistering 63 percent from the field in the game, including 81 percent in the second half.

Over the War Hawks' first 10 games of the season, defense has been one of the key factors, as McM is holding its opponents to 63.9 points per game, which ranks first in the Heartland Conference. The team also ranks first in three-point percentage defense (.295) and second in opponents' field goal percentage (.399).

With Williams sidelined for the rest of the year, McMurry will look to continue to score by committee. Five different War Hawks are averaging at least six points per game, led by Bell's 12.3. Jackson is averaging 9.8 per contest and Alfred Perez is scoring 8.0 ppg.

The Eagles come into the contest as winners of four of their last five games, including an 82-80 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith in their previous contest. Oklahoma Christian is led by reigning Conference Player of the Week, Will Reinke, who is averaging 19.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest. Kendre Talley is also scoring double figures for the Eagles, averaging 10.2 points per contest.

Like the War Hawks, Oklahoma Christian has hung its hat on defense this season. The Eagles rank number one in the conference in defensive field goal percentage (.398) and are giving up just 67.9 points per game.

The contest between the two schools marks the first meeting between McMurry and Oklahoma Christian since the 1976-77 season, a game that the Eagles won, 96-88.
