It looks like a group of boys playing with Legos. But really, this robotics team is working on their core values.

"We are a team, we share our gracious and professionalism and cooperation with others," said Cooper Harbaeck.

"What we discover is more important than what we win," Rylan Hayes chimed in.

This team of 5th graders will compete in a regional competition Saturday. They will earn points for explaining the core values, presenting a robot design and completing a missions like the ones they have been practicing all week.

"You can't touch the robot out of base," Cooper explained while pointing to the table. "And, like, this mission you'd have to go here and you'd have to hit this and one of the flags up it's 15 points."

When asked if it's playing or learning, the boys have a hard time deciding.

"Both."

"A little bit of both, yeah."

But their coach knows that they're really learning while playing.

"It takes a lot of hard work. It takes teamwork," Shana Harbaeck, robotics coach, said. "They've learned organizational skills. They've learned that if things don't work out the first time, you have to keep trying and trying."

And it shows. The boys say their problem solving skills have improved. As well as their ability to work as a team.

As  these 5th graders build a knack for math and science all by playing with Legos.
