AUSTIN, Texas  - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team could not overcome a hot-shooting night from Concordia and took a 116-83 American Southwest Conference loss on Thursday night in Austin.

Concordia jumped out to an early 32-20 with 8:32 to play, but the Cowboys rallied and cut the deficit to 38-36 with 5:16 to play in the first half. The Tornados opened the lead back to double digits and eventually led 56-47 at halftime.

In the second half Concordia took control of the game early in the second half as they pushed the lead out to 20 early in the half. The Cowboys never threatened the rest of the way as both teams emptied the benches early in the contest. Concordia hit 12 3-pointers in the contest.

Andy Spears led the Cowboys with a career-best 19 points. Darius Singletary had 14 points and Eric Taylor added 12.

Josh Sanchez had 26 points for Concordia and Dwayne Patterson had 20 points and 16 rebounds for Concordia.

HSU is now 9-4 overall and 6-2 in ASC play. Concordia improved to 11-3 on the year and 7-2 in ASC action. The Cowboys will play at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at 3 p.m. If the Cowboys win, there will be a three-way tie atop the ASC West standings between HSU, Concordia and UMHB.
