A fire destroyed a home in the 1200 block of 1st Street in Brownwood early Friday morning.

The Brownwood Fire Department responded to the call of a house fire around 1:40 AM Friday. The home was fully engulfed in flames, and multiple fire units from Brownwood and the Early Volunteer Fire Department were used to fight the fire.

Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston said that 9 occupants were inside the home when the fire started along with several dogs. All were able to escape unharmed.

"Everyone and everything were able to make it out just fine," Preston said.

Seven units from the Brownwood Fire Department responded to the fire as well as one unit from Early.

"We are waiting for the sun to come up to put out hot spots," Preston said just after 7 a.m. Friday.

He said that the fire appeared to start in the back of the home, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The occupants of the home were being provided immediate needs by the Red Cross.
