By: DPS Press Release
Updated: January 11, 2013
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Rangers arrested a Kent County Deputy Sheriff on January 8 for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

The arrest came following an investigation, by the Texas Rangers, that was initiated from a call from the victim's mother.

Deputy Sheriff Duane Eric West, a full time Deputy with the Kent County Sheriff's Office, was arrested late Tuesday night and charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a 13 year old child.  West was released to the Garza County Correctional Facility and a bond of $400,000 was set.

The investigation was initiated on December 31, 2012, when The Texas Rangers received a call from the victim's mother.  The Rangers worked with Children's Protective Service, who also received a call concerning this assault, and the Kent County Sheriff's Department during this investigation.

The case has been filed with the District Attorney for Kent County.  Any further investigative findings will be given to the District Attorney's Office.
