More than 11 years after the September 11 attacks and U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, President Obama and Afghan President Karzai on Friday claimed a kind of success.

"Our core objective, the reason we went to war in the first place, is now within reach," President Obama said, "insuring that Al Qaeda can never again use Afghanistan to launch attacks against our country."

The Afghan war has cost more than 2,000 American lives  and half a trillion dollars.  66,000 Americans are still there.

The president's accelerating his withdrawal timetable by a few months.

Afghan forces are now more capable and trustworthy, able to take over, according to President Obama.

They'll run 90% of operations by spring.
