The Cooper Cougars are riding a 4-game winning streak heading into their game with Coronado on Friday night.

District started for the Cougars on the Tuesday after the football players joined the team, they weren't exactly in basketball shape.

That is changing, now. The Cougars are 7 games into district, and the coaches and players say those football players are beginning to fit into what head coach Marc Case is trying to do.

"Those guys go through that season, and come to us highly competitive and higly motivated. That's part of it. So, it just takes a  little bit of cardiovascular work until they're back into the swing of what it takes to play a 32 minute basketball game. It just takes time," said head coach Marc Case.

"We're excited to get them, but they're not always in like perfect shape. So, we have to work them in as a team. Get them back on the court as much as we can so we get them back in our shape," said senior guard Dante Lowry.

"Basketball shape is a lot different that football shape. They've got to run the court a lot better and different," said senior forward Patrick Walls. "It's been really good to have them. Just athleticism purely comes from football.A lot of people that can just go out there and play great defense. So, we can just man up on people and shut players on other teams down."

The Cougars and Abilene High meet for the 1st time in boys basketball on Tuesday night. Both teams entered Friday night's games with 4-3 district records.
