SHERMAN, Texas - The McMurry swimming teams got back into action for 2013 by competing in the five-team Austin College Invitational on Saturday.

The War Hawk men placed fourth, rolling up 401 team points.  The women's squad was fifth (149 points).

Freshman Kameron Salinas had an impressive effort for the McM men. Salinas had three second place individual finishes in the 200 yard individual medley (2:05.38), the 100 breast stroke (1:02.94) and 200 breast stroke (2:20.34).

Additionally, Salinas swam the second leg on both the 200 medley relay (1:43.29) and 200 freestyle relay (1:32.43) teams.  Both teams were fourth in their respective races.

Freshman Kent Grimes was right behind Bowers in the 50 freestyle, finishing eighth (23.76), and the 100 backstroke, placing in ninth (58.22), and the 200 backstroke, in seventh (2:05.74). He also swam the second spot on the 200 freestyle.

Freshman Craig Bell had a top-10 finish in the 100 butterfly (56.08), good for seventh, and the 200 butterfly (2:12.62), which was third place. Cameron Sikes was seventh in the 100 breast stroke (1:06.45) and held down the third leg on the 200 freestyle relay.

K.C. Steblein anchored both relay teams.

McMurry's only event win - for either men or women - came in the men's mixed 1650 freestyle (18:43.80) from Nicholas Alvarez, with teammate Dalton Walker (20:15.71) second.

On the women's side, freshman Emma Donaldson notched a pair of top-10 placements for the War Hawks. Donaldson was second in the 200 breaststroke in a clocking of 2:46.43.  She was also third in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.76).
