APD: Thieves' Odd Behavior Leads to Shoplifting Arrest

Friday morning at about 2:45 a.m., Officer Chris Jennings responded to a possible drunk driver call. APD dispatch had been notified by a concerned citizen that a vehicle he had observed and followed was driving erratically, including the allegation that the vehicle was swerving in the roadway. With the citizen's help, officers converged to the area. Officer Jennings located the vehicle and contacted the motorist in the 6300 block of Buffalo Gap Road. Officer Jennings contacted the driver of the vehicle and smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. The preliminary investigation also revealed that the driver displayed indicators of intoxication. The driver conducted field sobriety tests which he performed poorly. The driver was arrested for misdemeanor DWI and taken to county jail where he refused to provide a breath specimen.
Saturday night at about 10:35 p.m., Officer David Humber contacted a motorist in the 2100 block of North Mockingbird Lane for a traffic violation. During this investigation, Officer Humber contacted the occupants of the vehicle. A records check revealed that the occupants had history with drug involvement. The front seat passenger, a female, was searched by an assisting officer after giving consent. This search revealed a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. The preliminary investigation revealed that the substance weighed approximately 1.8 grams and that the female subject planned on selling the substance, rather than consume it. The subject was arrested for felony Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine).
Sunday night at about 7:45 p.m., Officer Martin Walker responded to a shoplifter call at a business in the 1600 block of Hwy 351. APD dispatch received notification from a loss prevention employee that there were two subjects detained for alleged theft. Officer Walker contacted the involved parties, including one female and one male subject. His preliminary investigation revealed that these subjects had been observed acting suspiciously in the men's apparel department and that they were seen looking for cameras and store associates while selecting merchandise items in this department. The employee further alleged that both of the subjects had selected different types of merchandise while in the store. The subjects then moved to another location in the store where they were again seen together and where the female subject then began concealing the merchandise in her purse. The subjects left the store without paying for said items and were detained by the loss prevention employee. Approximately $139 of stolen property was recovered. Each subject was arrested for misdemeanor theft.
