Need a reason to lose weight? How about $500?

That's the cash prize for a challenge started by the owner of Gold's Gym here in Abilene, along with a complimentary year-long membership.

The Owner, Leroy Salas, is also taking in fifty new members and offering them a personal trainer for 90-days for free.

All you have to do is write a letter and explain why you want to lose thirty pounds or more.

"We want them from other gyms, their home, bootcamps," explains Salas. "What we feel is that a lot of people are intimidated, they don't want to jump aboard, so what we thought is that if it's free, give them all the tools necessary, why can't they do it?"

The deadline to submit letters is February 1.

"Challenge Abilene" runs from then until May 1 and anyone in Abilene can participate.

The person to shed the most pounds will get $500 and a free, year-long membership.
