Update: Teen Accepts Plea Deal Offered by DA, Families of Crash Victims

Information has come in regarding the plea deal offered to Eliseo Garza Tuesday morning.

Garza was the driver in a deadly wreck back in April 2012 that took the lives of two teens.

He was arrested for two counts of second-degree felony intoxication manslaughter.

Tuesday morning at the Jones County Courthouse, families of the crash victims agreed to have the District Attorney offer Garza a plea deal which he has accepted.

Garza will serve 20 years for his involvement in the crash.

Eliseo Garza, the teen at the wheel of a deadly wreck occurring on FM 600 back in April 2012, has been offered a plea deal.

At this time, most of the families of the teens involved in the accident, including the father of one of the female victims who lost her life in the crash, are at the Jones County Courthouse and have offered Garza a plea bargain.

Information has not yet been given on the details of the deal itself, but Garza is currently consulting with his attorney.

The families are speaking with the District Attorney at this time as we await more details.

I think this headline needs to be corrected. In our criminal justice system no one can offer an defendent a plea bargin except the prosecutor. Now maybe the families agreeded to it but the prosecutor has to be the one who offers the deal. This headline mis leads the public and let them think the families are the one who decide and that is far from the case in our system.
