APD: Residents Call Police as Man Beats on Door Over Three Hours

Monday afternoon at 1:10 p.m., APD dispatch was notified by a female caller that stated her friend's vehicle was stolen by an unknown Hispanic male from the parking lot of a convenience store located in the 1200 block of Grape Street. Officer Duff Phipps responded to the call and contacted the involved parties. His preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle's owner, a male victim, was at the convenience store with the calling party when the vehicle was stolen. The victim stated that he had left his keys in the vehicle before getting out of it and going into the store. The suspect was seen in the vehicle before fleeing westbound on N. 12 Street. The stolen vehicle was described as a red 2003 Nissan Xterra valued at approximately $4,000. Property belonging to the victim and valued at approximately $350 was in the vehicle at the time of this theft. The witness described the suspect as a Hispanic male in his mid-20's. This investigation continues.

Tuesday morning at about 2:05 a.m., Officer Brian Poynor responded to a disturbance call at a residence in the 500 block of Meander Street. A calling party had notified APD dispatch that a male subject was banging on their apartment door and yelling. The calling party also stated that this behavior had been happening since 11 p.m. Officer Poynor contacted the male subject at the apartment. The subject identified himself by a name and date of birth. As the preliminary investigation continued, Officer Poynor's suspicions were confirmed when the subject changed his answer about his age. An identification card was located but the subject provided information that did not support the information on the identification card. Officer Poynor instructed the subject to place his hands behind his back and attempted to physically detain the subject with handcuffs pending positive identification. The subject pulled away from Officer Poynor and began to flee down a set of stairs before being placed into custody. The subject was positively identified and a records check revealed the subject had an outstanding arrest warrant for theft. The subject was arrested on the warrant and for two misdemeanor offenses: Failure to Identify and Evading Detention.

Tuesday morning at about 2:40 a.m., Officer Carye Adkins contacted a motorist at the intersection of Don Juan and Saxon after observing the motorist driving backwards on the right side of the roadway. Officer Adkins contacted the driver and smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver was detained and a search of the vehicle revealed a small quantity of marijuana. The driver was arrested for misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.
