Whether it's the flu or some other illness or condition, local doctors say more and more people are using the advent of technology and the internet to self-diagnose medical issues.

Whether it's googling symptoms or looking up specific information about diseases, it is easier than ever to find instant information.

Some folks believe it will save them hassle and money by skipping the ER by trading it for the search bar, but local doctors tell us it is not only risky to self-diagnose, it can be hazardous to assume certain generic symptoms mean a specific diagnosis without running necessary tests.

If you're really hesitant to visit the hospital, doctors say, just call your doctor instead.
