(KVEO)  On Tuesday high school seniors at T-STEM Early College High School in Pharr, Texas attended a special scholarship workshop.

For the seniors many of them will be graduating within less than five months.

School counselors were on staff to provide assistance for those applying for financial aid and private scholarships.

For Valeria Sanchez of Pharr, she aspires to to be a nurse, so she wanted to get her hands on scholarship applications to help her pay for her college.  For her high school graduation is just around the corner and wanted to begin preparing.

"I want to go to Texas A&M in Corpus Christi, the island university and i want to become a nurse," Sanchez says.

The workshop provided one on one attention and assisted high school seniors with different resources ranging from filling out federal financial aid forms, to applying for academic and even minority Hispanic scholarships.

Meanwhile, more Hispanic students in the valley  are breaking cultural traditions and going away to college because they see the benefit.  According to a national report based on U.S. Census Bureau data, the number of Latinos enrolling in college has increased by nearly 25% n the past two years.
