APD: Burglar's Height Gives Him Away

Thursday afternoon at about 4:30, Officer Sterling Riddle responded to a disturbance call at a residence in the 1600 block of Butternut Street. Officer Cory Valencia assisted on this call and contacted two male subjects. During a records check, Officer Valencia came to the conclusion that the information provided by one of the male subject was bogus, and that a records check on the name provided showed the subject's height to be 5'9". The subject Officer Valencia had detained was 6' tall. The subject's real identity was revealed during the investigation and a records check confirmed that the male subject had an outstanding arrest warrant for felony burglary. The male subject was arrested for his warrant and for misdemeanor Failure to Identify.

Thursday afternoon at about 4:50, Officer Chris Milliorn responded to a shoplifter call at a business in the 4500 block of South First Street. APD dispatch was notified by an employee that one adult subject was detained for shoplifting. Officer Milliorn contacted the involved parties and his preliminary investigation revealed that a male subject had stolen various merchandise items before being contacted by a store employee. Approximately $342 of stolen merchandise was recovered. The male subject was arrested for misdemeanor Theft.

Thursday evening at about 9:10, Officer Steven Risinger contacted a motorist in the 5100 block of Texas Avenue for a traffic violation. Officer Risinger contacted the driver and observed other occupants in the vehicle. The driver told Officer Risinger that his license and inspection were expired. A K-9 officer assisted on this traffic stop. During the preliminary investigation, the K-9 alerted on the vehicle for the presence of narcotics. A search of one of the occupants revealed a small quantity of marijuana. The male subject was arrested for misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.
