Lady Indians Make Biggest Move In Poll; 16 Big Country Teams Ranked

By: Eric Boynton
Updated: January 21, 2013
The Jim Ned Lady Indians made the biggest jump this week out of the 16 teams in the Big Country currently ranked in the top 25 of the coaches' poll.

After a 35 point victory over Bangs Friday night, the Lady Indians (#10) moved up six spots in class 2A this week. Meanwhile, the Merkel Lady Badgers (#1) remain on top after a win over Breckenridge. Comanche (#5) and Cisco (#16) round out Class 2A for the girls in the Big Country.

The largest jump in the boys polls this week were the Abilene Christian High School Panthers. Already in the top five, ACHS bumped up to number three this week among small private schools following wins over Sacred Heart and Harvest Christian.

Only one other boys team moved up in the polls this week. That's the Eula Pirates in Class A Div. II, who picked up a convincing thirty point victory over Roby on Friday night.

Back in the girls' polls, Class A Div. II proved to be a bright spot for the Big Country this week as all three teams that were ranked moved up. That includes the Baird Lady Bears (#13), Cross Plains Lady Buffaloes (#20), and Roby Lady Lions (#21).

One division higher in the girls' polls is where you find the Goldthwaite Lady Eagles (#21); who once again this week came up just short of cracking the top twenty.

In Class 3A, maintaining a perfect district record wasn't enough tot boost either groups of Wylie Bulldogs. The Lady Bulldogs mainted their spot at number 18 and the boys once again stayed in the top five.

Three other boys teams held their own this week. Both the Jim Ned Indians (#5), and Breckenridge Buckaroos (#8) remained in the top ten in Class 2A. Meanwhile the Munday Moguls (#20) didn't budge after a win over Anson on Friday night.
