Mistake Slows Sale of Former Abilene Elementary School

An error made more than fifty years ago is causing a hold up in the sale of a former Abilene elementary school.

In August of last year, AISD sold the former Travis Elementary School property to an independent buyer, but before they could close the deal, a local title attorney discovered that half of the property Travis sits on is still titled to it's former owner, the City of Abilene.

The attorney explains that the mistake was found on a 1959 deed from the city to AISD.

He says they have no reason to believe this is anything more than a simple error and, in an effort to complete the sale, a resolution and corrected deed will go through Abilene's City Council at a meeting later this week.
