Updated: January 23, 2013
The city of Brownwood has approved a conceptual design of a new central fire station.

After much debate, the new firehouse will be located in the old Red Cross building across the street from the Lehnis Railroad Museum.

It will be 14,500 square feet, more than double the size of the current firehouse that was built 50 years ago.

The new firehouse will feature a training room and carpeted sleeping quarters for the firemen.

The final plans and specifications will be completed by Brown Reynold Watford Architects and the fire station should be complete in 9 to 12 months.
