ABILENE, Texas  - For the seventh consecutive year, Hardin-Simmons will join the Student-Athlete Advisory Committees from all 14 American Southwest Conference member institutions for the Make a Change in 14 Days campaign.

Hardin-Simmons will be collecting its loose change collection at the basketball games at the Mabee Complex for the next four home games, beginning Thursday night against Schreiner. This year Hardin-Simmons has chosen the Special Olympics of West Texas as its charity of choice.

"This is a great way for us as students to give back to the community," said HSU SAAC president Tyson Denton. "We have done this every year I have been at HSU and we usually get a big response. We encourage all of our fans to get rid of their spare change and bills too if they are so inclined to help out the Special Olympics."

The conference-wide project is also designed as a friendly challenge among the ASC campuses. The top three collecting member SAACs will be honored by the conference after a vote of their peers.

Last year, the SAAC groups combined to raise $10,598.50 for charity. In six years, over $50,000 has been raised to benefit 57 different organizations. In each of the last two campaigns, the SAAC groups have topped the $10,000 mark.

"It is inspiring to see the energy, determination and passion that our member Student-Athlete Advisory Committees show at this time every year," said ASC Assistant Commissioner and SAAC Co-Advisor Greg Weghorst. "Make a Change in 14 Days is a project that we are extremely proud. We are excited to see what results it brings in 2013."
