APD: Shoplifter Threatens Lives of Store Employees

Wednesday morning, at approximately 10:25 a.m., Officer Jesus Villarreal was contacted by a female victim at the LEC. The victim claimed that a known female subject had stolen a jewelry piece and some cash without the victim's consent. The victim reported that this property was valued at approximately $365. A report for misdemeanor theft was taken and this investigation continues.
Wednesday night at about 6:20 p.m., officers responded to a shoplifter call at a business in the 4300 block of Southwest Drive. APD dispatch had been notified of an alleged theft by a store employee whom advised that a male and a female subject had committed the crime. Officer Mary Guitar contacted all of the involved parties and her preliminary investigation revealed that the two adult subjects were both directly involved in concealing merchandise in grocery sacks and leaving the store without payment for said items. The investigation also revealed that additional stolen merchandise from the store was in the shopping basket when the subjects were detained by loss prevention personnel. Two children accompanied these subjects. Both subjects were arrested and the children were released to Child Protective Services. Merchandise valued at approximately $344 was recovered. During the arrest process, the male subject made threatening and retaliatory statements towards several employees that placed them in fear for their safety. Those statements referred to the male subjects desire to kill them. The male subject was arrested for felony Retaliation. Both subjects were arrested for misdemeanor theft.
Thursday morning at about 12:25 a.m., Officer Carye Adkins contacted a motorist in the 500 block of Stafford Drive after observing the motorist driving backwards on the wrong side of the road. Officer Adkins contacted the male driver and smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. Officer Adkins also observed indicators of intoxication from the driver. The driver conducted field sobriety tests which he performed poorly. The driver was arrested and a records check revealed that the driver had two previous convictions for DWI. A blood sample was seized from the driver and the driver was arrested on an enhanced charge of felony DWI based on the previous convictions. This investigation continues.
