And then the unthinkable happened, she suffered a second stroke.
"I mean it's just shocking, what do you say? She's 24 you know," says friend DeAnne Green.
Prior to her strokes, Britney had been accepted into nursing school and after her first stroke, her eyes were still on the prize.
"She said, it's going to be OK. This is just a part of my story. I'm gonna have a patient some day that has a stroke and they're gonna say, 'I can't do this' and I'm gonna say 'yes you can. You can do this because I did this," says Green.
Britney has been at Hendrick Medical Center here in Abilene for 19 days straight. Her husband Matt, has been with her every waking moment.
"She's still the most beautiful woman in the world to me and probably always will be. And A will stand by her side through it all," says Matt Barninger.
The journey is a little tougher because Britney doesn't have health insurance. But that worry is not something Matt will let her see.
"When I go in there and try to let her know what not only am I there fighting with her but her parents and her friends, everyone is there fighting for her," he explains.
The entire community of Santa Anna and Brownwood has come together, even creating a website for her with the goal of raising $50,000 for her and her family.
"It's very humbling and over-whelming. It's just an honor to see the community to do that and to be there. God's amazing I think," says Barninger.
The family says it's the small miracles they pray for and that so far, they've been coming.
