In an exclusive interview with BCH Sports' Alyssa Orange, Mumme said contract issues and disagreements with the university ultimately led to his departure.
Prior to Mumme's arrival at McMurry, the War Hawks won only 16 games in eight years. Under Mumme's tenure as head of the War Hawks, McMurry went 27-16 between the 2009 and 2012 seasons.
In 2011, the War Hawks went to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history, and defeated Trinity University in the first round.
This year McMurry made the move to Division II, and defeated Southern Arkansas in the Heart of Texas Bowl. McMurry also renovated, and re-opened Wilford Moore Stadium during the 2012 season.
McMurry will have a media conference at a later date to address the future of the football program.
The university said in a statement today offensive coordinator Mason Miller will be the next head coach at McMurry. Miller played for Mumme at Valdosta State, and has been at McMurry since 2009 as part of Mumme's coaching staff.
