The dedication of a weekly Sunday devotional was a way for students and the community to come together.

"This is going to be on everyone's mind," said University Church of Christ Elder Jeff Arrington. "And we could either ignore it or we could meet the students where they are in terms of their own pain and questions, and engage them in a positive way."

They prayed, sang and remember both Lindsey Smith and Jeff Davis and the families of those involved. Using the devotional time to deal with their emotions.

"To talk about a Psalm of lament. And engage the students in an opportunity to cry out to God.  And then to recognize that even in the hardest times, there is the seed of hope that we look forward to," Arrington explained.

And the university had a message they wanted to convey to all it's students during this time of hurt.

"These questions and pain that we feel is real. And that god is not put off or chased away when we confess our fears and struggles with him," said Arrington.

Reminding students that together, they can stay strong.

"Christianity is a faith about real-life. And death is part of life; it's not easy," said Arrington. "But we as a community turn to god in these events. And turning to God and turning to each other is what gives us strength."
