Abilene Christian University students and faculty members gathered Monday morning for a memorial service for the student who was killed in a traffic accident near the Abilene airport.

The daily chapel was turned into a memorial for 20-year-old Lindsey Smith of New Braunfels. The 20-year-old woman was one of two people who were killed in the Friday night accident.

The funeral for Lindsey is scheduled Thursday in her hometown of New Braunfels. The five other ACU students who were riding in the pickup truck involved in the accident are all recovering from their physical injuries.

Law enforcement officers are working to determine exactly how the accident happened.

27-year-old Jeffery Davis of Abilene was also killed in the accident. The truck he was driving slammed head-on into the pickup with six ACU students near Abilene Regional Airport.

I just want to say that I think it is very distasteful to have a picture of the casket on the news page. Please think about the family and have empathy for their privacy. Just my opinion.
