McMurry Tables Athletic Program Changes

By: BCHP News Staff
Updated: February 1, 2013
The McMurry University Board of Trustees voted Friday to table proposals for changes in academic and athletic programs at the university and will appoint a task force to prepare a more comprehensive look at the issues McMurry is facing as it grows and strategically positions itself for the future.

The task force will be directed to formulate a proposal which will incorporate the information presented today with additional facts that address a long-term strategic plan for positioning McMurry for success in revenue generation, athletic and academic student recruiting, and academic program offerings. The task force will present its findings at a future board meeting.

"The board and I realize that this decision and the preliminary discussions that led to the original proposals have caused uncertainty and angst among the campus community and we apologize for that," said McMurry President Dr. John Russell. "However, in these economic times, it is imperative that organizations have a clear and detailed plan for future success as we adjust to changing needs in the higher education market."
