HSU Men Allow 70 Pts In 2nd Half, Losing 101-67 To Concordia

ABILENE, Texas  -- Concordia hit 12 second-half 3-pointer en route to a 101-67 American Southwest Conference men's basketball win over Hardin-Simmons on Senior Day at the Mabee Complex.
 
The two teams locked up in a tight first half with neither team leading by more than six points. Concordia led at halftime 31-30.
 
A layup by HSU's Eric Taylor's with 13:51 to play made it 46-45 Concordia. Then the storm hit and Concordia went on a 20-4 run over the next two minutes of action. Included in the run were six 3-pointers, including four by Nick Haynes. HSU had four turnovers in the run and the Cowboys never recovered.
 
Andy Spears led the Cowboys with 19 points and a career-best 16 rebounds. John Derr had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Bernard Stiggers had 13 points.
 
Haynes led the Tornados with 29 points and he hit 9-of-17 3-pointers. Terry Coprew had 15 points and Dwayne Patterson had 14 points and 15 rebounds.
 
The teams came into the game tied for second place in the ASC West. HSU is now 13-8 on the year and 10-5 in league play and the Tornados improve to 15-6 overall and 11-4 in conference action.
 
HSU will play its final four games of the regular season on the road, beginning Thursday at Sul Ross State.
 
The game was the final home game for the Cowboy seniors - John Derr, Jeff Holland, Bernard Stiggers and Andy Spears.
